Resources provided to support centres in creating, reviewing and annually updating exams-related policies and procedures to reflect roles, responsibilities and ways of working in the centre, ensuring compliance with current regulations and achieving good practice

Checklist and templates

These are annually reviewed/updated and published each September

  • POLICY CHECKLIST

JCQ regulations require centres to have policies/procedures in place as detailed in the checklist. Also use the checklist to confirm good practice policies/procedures in place in your centre.

  • EXAMS POLICY TEMPLATE

An Exams Policy is one of the most significant exam-related documents in a centre where roles, responsibilities and processes are defined; this template provides a generic overview of the exam cycle process which can be customised to reflect ways of working, staff roles and responsibilities and inform/support contingency and succession planning within a centre.

As an overarching wraparound policy document, an interactive template is not provided in the Policy Generator Tool and is only made available as a Word template for customising/editing by centres should they choose to use it. This policy is intended to provide one single point of reference covering all aspects of the exams management and administration process, informing a centre’s contingency plan should this need to be invoked, and signposting to/including reference to all other exams related policies and procedures in place in a centre.

Policies required for JCQ inspection purposes that may form part of ‘centre-wide’ policies are only provided as Word templates to allow for easier inclusion of content into centre-wide documents. Interactive templates for the policies listed below are therefore not provided in the Policy Generator Tool.

  • CHILD PROTECTION AND SAFEGUARDING POLICY (Exams) TEMPLATE
  • DATA PROTECTION POLICY (Exams) TEMPLATE
  • EQUALITIES POLICY (Exams) TEMPLATE
  • WHISTLEBLOWING POLICY (Exams) TEMPLATE

The templates below were created before the Policy Generator Tool existed and continue to be annually reviewed/updated as Word templates as well as being offered as interactive templates in the tool. Any templates created since its existence are only available in the tool and no further Word templates will be created (unless exceptional circumstances apply).

These cover the content of the four areas provided in the Word template.

CYBER SECURITY POLICY (Exams) TEMPLATE

Although there is no current JCQ requirement for centres to specifically have a cyber security policy in place, this template is designed to provide centres with a starting point/framework on which to build a cyber security policy and associated procedures relating to the management, administration and conducting of examinations.

This template is informed by guidance published by the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) and the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).

This template is only available in Word format to allow for easier inclusion of content into any relevant centre-wide document.
